Miss America 1999

Nicole Johnson was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1993. Rather than resign herself to a life less than she wanted, Ms. Johnson set out to learn everything she could about the disease and has become a leading proponent for people living with diabetes. She has served as an international consultant and spokesperson for diabetes issues for more than a decade. Ms. Johnson was selected Miss America 1999.
